| Overview | This Car Top Cargo Carrier mounts on your vehicle's roof rack crossbars for an additional 18 cubic feet of enclosed storage space, freeing up more space on the interior. That's equal to having an additional mid-size vehicle trunk available to you. It's great for carrying camping gear, sports equipment, luggage and other cargo in a weather-resistant and secure space and has a carrying capacity of 110 pounds. The cargo box fits easily on most factory and aftermarket cross rail systems, which must be rated to carry 110 pounds or more. The carrier is not to be mounted directly on the vehicle?s roof which is dangerous and potentially harmful to the vehicle finish. The load in the container should be distributed such that no more that 30 pounds are at either end and no more than 50 pounds are in the middle section. This cargo storage container is rear opening and accessible from the rear or either side with 2 metal struts holding the lid open. When closed, the lid is held securely with latches on the front and sides and a built-in lock at the rear. The latches are prevented from opening by metal clips which are included with the cargo carrier. The clips can be replaced with padlocks (not included) for additional security. Installation on your vehicle's roof rack is super easy and quick. No tools are required if your cross rails are adjustable and can be set at 22 inches on center. Cross rails on some vehicles are not adjustable and may require additional holes drilled into the bottom of the cargo carrier to fit the actual rail spacing. If this is the case, attach the cargo carrier to the rear cross rails first, using the pre-drilled holes. This is to allow clearance for the vehicle's rear hatch to be opened without interference with the rooftop carrier. Click here for complete installation instructions. The Car Top Cargo carrier is secured to the cross rails with U-type? brackets which extend up through the bottom of the carrier. Threaded knobs are screwed onto the threaded brackets to secure the carrier. The knobs are on the inside of the box, so that when closed and locked, the carrier cannot be removed from the vehicle. |
